The unusual rainfall in December added to the cold; it sent shudders all through the spines of people out of their cosy beds at night. Sutirtho sat on a broken bench near the entrance of the platform, bedraggled and shivering in cold. So this was the big old house that Sandhya had heard of so often from her childhood. Her father and her widowed aunt had already given her a good idea of how big the house was but even then she could not contain her awe. It extended across three streets.
