Wedding decorations – short contest story
“Jack, please hurry up with those lavenders. The wedding is at noon.” I said as I reached for the bouquets of white roses for the bridesmaids. Being in a hurry, I accidently knocked into someone and fell with the roses scattered around the florist’s shop. “Ouch! Not the roses!” I said out loud as I straightened up. I asked Jack to get me the replacements as I paid for the damage done. I heard an apology but I waved it off. The workers carried all the flowers to my car and before I knew it I was driving off to the Holliston Hall, where my client’s wedding was being held. On my arrival, my team started work on the decorations immediately.
“Another perfect wedding.” I thought to myself as the bride waved goodbye. I realized moments before the wedding that I had lost my birthday bracelet, a gift from my mother. It was the only memory I had of her left. I had searched for it in the hall but to no avail. “I’m sorry mum.”I thought to myself and drove home.
A few days later, I was back at the florist’s with a huge order for lilies when Jack told me that the man that I had bumped into returned yesterday looking for me. “He was very upset because he had caused you so much. He paid for the flowers you had to replace. I refused at first but he insisted.” Jack explained. “Do you have his number? I feel so sorry for him. You know my work. Sometimes, I feel that I don’t even have time to stop and listen to anyone.” I felt terrible for causing a stranger such trouble. But, Jack had no idea who he was.
A day came when I was the busiest of all days-my sister’s wedding day. She had announced a wedding quite abruptly and immediately gave the duty to plan her wedding to me. Being the bridesmaid and keeping up with the events scheduled, I finally managed to take a break. A drink in my hand, I was surprised to see coal black eyes staring at me. The owner of those eyes was a tall, well-built and handsome man. He approached me and asked, “Maybe you don’t remember me. We bumped into each other once. I think this is yours.” He reached to his pocket and handed me something very familiar-my bracelet. I smiled and by the end of the day, we were friends.
Two years later, I received a bouquet of beautiful red roses with a card that read, “I love you, not for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you.” Someone knocked my door. It was David. “I love the flowers. Thank you.” I smiled and gave him a hug. “I know your favourites are lilies. But, I wanted you to have the red roses because…” and he got down on one knee and continued, “Will you marry me, Rachael.” “You don’t have to promise me the moon or stars. Just promise me that you will stand under them with me. And, yes I will marry you.” I replied. David took me in his arms and kissed me soundly. “So, who’s going to plan our wedding?” Now, that was something to think about.

ouch~ love the story. so sweet. but don’t u think is a little bit like the ’27 Dresses’? still, it’s a sweet story.
Very good piece of writing. It was very easy to read and it flowed well. I like the development of the character. You introduced her well, but you gave room for the audience to interpret how old she was, and whether it was an older sister or younger sister. I like the way you introduced David at the end as well, everyone just instantly knew who he was, freaking awesome.
I was most intrigued by the response to the lost of the bracelet, it got me wondering whether she was close to her mom or not. Like LIke Like.
