Love stories can be of various kinds – short contest story
When God closes a door, he opens another.
“Very well for one to forward such messages”, I thought, and sighed to myself. I glanced outside my window. The thunder, the heavy rain, the dark, gloomy sky reflected my mood. I had thought that coming to Liverpool for my MBA would help, buy me time. But things didn’t work that way, and I felt all lost and alone now. Sigh.
“….establish chains of cause and effect…” I looked outside my window again. I just could not concentrate on my dissertation. My boss’ words came back to me, “You cannot run away to the UK to escape, you will have to face things. Accept that this is the end”.
She was right, of course. She always was. Someone pinged me on gtalk. Crystal was asking about my progress with the assignment. “Aargh I’m bored!” I told her. She understood. I did not have to spell anything out for her. She always knew. We chatted, totally running each-other’s work schedule. It did not matter that we would have to worry a little more about less work done.
me: wht u dng?
crystal: watchin friends
me: me too! season 8
crystal: now????
me: ya
crystal: u wunt believ even m watchin S8
me: whoaaa…ok …which episode?
crystal: episode 4….the one about the video tape
me: lol.. thank god! i was watchin ep. 8
me: wudve been too freaky otherwise?
crystal: hehehe else that wud hv been a freak coincidence
me: seeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
crystal: this is tooooo much! stop thinkin like me
me: hehe.. we are so in tune!
This happened quite often. Too often. It was like we were one mind! “Great minds think alike”, we always said. Crystal and I had known each other for a few months, but never really talked much. One day I invited her for coffee, and from then on there was no looking back. I realized that I have been less gloomy and less loser-like since then. The break-up and subsequent mess seemed to hurt less.
crystal: hey.. gtg! Johnny is here, hav to go mak dinner for him.
me: Wokies! Catch ya laters.
Johnny was Crystal’s boyfriend. Ok, I know what you were thinking! A lot of people have had doubts, of course
. I’ve even been asked “Do you Love her?”! Well, I’d have to say yes to that! I love spending time with her. I trust her, respect her as a person, love the way I feel around her. But being IN love? That’s different. That’s Crystal and Johnny. Touch wood. I’m glad to see a couple like that. Sigh. I had that, too.
crystal: I’m bak! Did ya miss me?
Damn. How did she do that? Does she have a radar that beeps when I’m low?
me: sure did hun!
Johnny: GET LOST u two!
I smiled. We loved to needle Johnny about this.
me: ignore Johnny
crystal: Sonam, Ignore Johnny!
See! In my head again!
I thought I’d leave the two love birds alone for a bit and work on my dissertation. I was being able to work better now.
Maybe not a door, and maybe the heavens had nothing to do with it; but surely, the sun was shining through the window.

Sonam Rateria.
Love means something to one and totally different for others – Wedding blues.

I would call it as a true unconditional friendship……
Not every love story has to be about Romeo and Juliet…. “Friendship” is also about love.
Loved the simplicity of the story and the refreshing take on friendship!
…..simple words to express the unspoken spark of hope…..brilliantly worded piece…
Simple, yet well written. The dialogues make it a nice read!
Good piece, highlights the importance of friends!
By any chance… is Crystal a fictional resemblance of Milan?
Don’t loose heart my dear… Love will find it’s way. Lovely write up. You should do this more often.
