No second chance – short contest story

phpTL0TRAAM No second chance – short contest storyAs Henna hit the send button in her mailbox, her heart was thumping loudly. She did not know how Sameer will react to her stance. She has been a shy girl, but love gave her strength to be honest and forthcoming about her feelings for Jai.

Henna had met Jai recently, and she felt an instant attraction towards him. She could not help herself from falling in love with him. The fact that she was to marry within next few months seemed immaterial. She knew what she shared with Jai was not right and neither justified towards Sameer, her fiancé, yet she did nothing to stop herself from falling for Jai. And that he reciprocated her attraction by giving her subtle hints, stolen glances and occasional flirtatious chats, encouraged her.

When Henna thought she had struggled enough with her emotions, and the question of right and wrong, she thought of telling it all to Sameer. But she did not know how to do it. She knew she would be hurting him a lot. After all, Sameer had been her friend for a long time before they got engaged. And he had asked her permission before taking it further to his parents, who later conveyed the message to Henna’s. At first she thought she would wait till Sameer got back from his trip, so that she could tell him in person. But she was not brave enough to look him into his eyes and break the news. She worried she would feel weak and will not be able to say what she had wished to. She shunned the thought of calling him too as that would also require confrontation with Sameer and she did not know what she she would do if he reacted in an extreme manner.

So Henna decided to send Sameer an email to convey the news. She wrote a small message without explaining herself, which said:

Hi Sameer,

I am sorry to say this but I do not want to marry you. I have found someone else. I hope you will understand.

Henna

Henna never received a reply and the day of Sameer’s arrival came close.

Henna decided to tell Jai about her feelings and gave him a card that expressed her love. She thought Jai would reciprocate her love, but he told her something that shocked her. Jai was married! Henna couldn’t believe she had been so naïve. She did not understand why Jai had been flirting with her, and she hurt Sameer for this guy. But it was too late by then, and she waited for Sameer to come so that she could explain everything to him.

The day Sameer was supposed to come she received a phone call from his mom. He had met with an accident, and was in ICU. Henna visited him and prayed as she had never prayed before; but Sameer never woke up.
