How to create good habits in our children?
We all want to see our children growing up with good habits. As parents, one of our most vital responsibilities is to help our kids develop good habits.
Habits are automatic actions that take no conscious thought. Habits could be an established custom; for example “Brushing teeth every morning, Dining at 7 every evening”. When parents think of their children’s habits, they usually think about the things that drive them upside down. But have we wondered that Habits can be positive, too?
There are many successful people, who have achieved great heights in their professional or personal strata of life. To them we say that they have a strong willingness to pursue. But a larger segment to their success contributes to the habits they developed from their early childhood. Hence, helping children to form good habits, teach discipline, is very crucial for education. Children with good habits at home inculcate in them, a good aura even at school and other public places. All parents want their children to be disciplined and form good habits. Have parents ever given a thought that “If they themselves don’t have good habits in them, how will they pass it on to their children?” In today’s speeding times, parents have a lot of expectations from their children, without even bothering to look within themselves. Most of the habits that children form are with respect to what they see being followed at home. These tender minds have a quick grasping ability and sharp minds. If given the right knowledge at the right age and time, they will attain much more than what we might expect.
We often tend to compare children, dislike certain behaviors of other children and tend to categorize them. Why does that happen? Is it because we all love to see clean, neat and disciplined, good mannered children? Parents are a very important source of education to their children. Discipline starts at home.
The younger the child, the more open their minds will be and hence easier to inculcate good habits in them. That’s why early childhood years are considered important as children grasp anything and everything taught to them.
Below are some suggestions of some important habits that should be taught early.
• Don’t try everything at once. Choose only a few habits for your kids to develop with a fortnightly target.
• Involve your kids. Of course, you are trying to change their habits. Talk with them about what you’re trying to do. Let them know that positive habits can make their lives easier and more pleasant.
• Allow them to take their own sweet time to understand what you are trying to tell them. Of course, keep reminding them of their target.
• Teach them Eating Habits too. Learning good eating habits early leads to lifelong health and wellness.
• Healthy sleeping habits act an essential role for development in young children. If a child gets enough good sleep he or she will be more likely to be alert and ready to learn new skills.
• Teach the kids the importance of exercise at an early age. Start with taking them for a walk and teach them simple exercises. Of course, parents need to exercise to set a good role model as well. Regular exercise is very important for children to stay healthy.
Parents are the first and most important teachers of our children. So we should help our children to develop these important habits that will help them grow mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically.
